Wednesday in the Word

Every Wednesday we do our best to give you (Maranatha Church) this post that we hope keeps
you grounded, encouraged, and instructed in God’s Word. A mid-week shot in the arm to keep
you thinking about the words of Scripture. Today is another one of those days, but it is no
ordinary Wednesday.

Today is unique because it is the first time since we started Wednesday in the Word that
Christmas has fallen on a Wednesday. So, as you are traveling to see relatives, unwrapping
presents, taking an afternoon nap, or just enjoying a cup of coffee with family and friends,
remember that Jesus Christ made all of that possible.

He has made us a part of his family: Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made
holy are of the same family. "So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers." (Heb. 2:11)

He has given us the gift of eternal life: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom. 6:23)

He has given us rest from weariness: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I
will give you rest." (Matt. 11:28)

He has invited us to abide with him: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in
me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

While it is true that Jesus is “the reason for the season”, it is also true that Jesus is the reason we
can ENJOY the season. We set aside this day to celebrate what God has done through the son,
Jesus. He came to us so we could be brought back to Him. God has forgiven our sin and made a
way to enjoy life as he designed. That is something to celebrate. Merry Christmas!
