Wednesday in the Word

On Sunday, we looked at the ways in which a father can influence his children. I used Abraham as an example of how a father’s faith can become generational through his example. Paul, in his letter to the Romans, testifies to the faith that Abraham had.

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

-Romans 4:18-21

Fathers are not the only ones, though, who are capable of influencing others through their faith. When we are “fully persuaded that God [has] the power to do what he [has] promised,” then we are able to inspire others toward this same saving faith.

When we endure hardship as followers of Christ, or things seem bleak, or even when everything is going great, an unwavering faith is sure to cause others to take notice. As Christians, we all have influence on those around us. We can influence how they view God by demonstrating consistently how we view God. That we regard the promises of God as already fulfilled and who we can hope in against all hope. And we can show them that we serve an awesome and mighty God who we love and trust through everything.
