Every Hour I Need Thee
April 12, 2023Our family has entered into this season of having a newborn baby again. Truly a gift from God and an answer to prayer!
However, it is a season that finds my husband and I with full hands, tired bodies and cold cups of coffee. With five children under the age of seven, it is most certainly a beautiful, chaotic and sanctifying season.
The week after our daughter was born, my devotional shared the lyrics from the song 'Every Hour I Need Thee', which I have been singing daily and loudly - much to my children's chagrin - "Every SECOND I need thee!"
Because I really do.
I need Him every hour because I know exactly how anxiety, depression and anger come knocking on our doors when we are struggling.
I need Him every hour because the temptation to give into flesh is strong.
I need Him every hour because I am weak.
I need Him every hour because I am not enough.
But He is.
"I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.
I need Thee every hour,
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh."
May we daily remind ourselves of this:
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
