Wednesday in the Word

In the youth group we are using a book called “Who Am I in Christ”. Each week one of the youth picks a devotional out to share with the others and explains why it stuck out to them or what it meant to them.

As one of the youth sponsors I have also been reading the book. In one of the chapters, it talked about identity theft. Identity theft is literally out of hand these days. It can range from someone using your credit cards – to using your social security card to obtain loans – to even someone just pretending to be you on Facebook. It can cause total chaos in your life.

But there is another kind of identity theft also. Satan has been in the identity theft business longer than “identity theft” as we know it today.

He steals our joy – he lies to us – as he did in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. He lied to them – convinced them to take their eyes off God and onto themselves and in turn stole their joy. Now, instead of living in peace with God, they were afraid of God. Fear does not bring joy. (Genesis 3:1-10) In John 8:44 , Jesus refers to Satan as a liar – the father of lies. Satan doesn’t want us to see God for who he truly is and what he wants from us.

But we can rest in what Jesus did for us. John 10:10: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that you may have life and live it abundantly.”

Praise God for giving his son so we can have life!!! God wants us to live that life with him – in his word so we can know who we are in Christ!! Don’t let Satan steal your identity in Christ.
