Wednesday in the Word

“Discernment is not the ability to tell the difference between right and wrong; rather, it is telling the difference between right and almost right.”
-Charles Spurgeon

As a Christian, many issues that we face in the world today seem fairly black and white. Thankfully, it is through God's Word that we can know where we stand on most things because the Bible gives us a clear picture of what is good and right and what is evil and wrong.

However, we will find that there are times in our lives where deeper discernment is needed. And as Charles Spurgeon said, it will often call us to discern "between right and almost right".

The Bible tells us in Hebrew 5:14 that ‭"...solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."

It is by constant use that we can know the difference between good and evil. Not a little bit of Bible reading here and there, maybe a prayer a day when we remember it - but it is through diligent training and constant use of the tools that God has gifted us with that we can judge what is good and what is evil.

Even when the lines seem blurry and the waters have been muddied, even when the world tempts us to believe the "almost right" thing - through God's Word and the work of the Holy Spirit, we can discern what truth is!
