Wednesday in the Word

Would you rather know about a good event that will happen to you 10 years in the future, or would you rather change a bad life event that happened 10 years in your past?

If you’re not sure, start by asking this question: Which part of your life do you fixate on the most: your past regrets or your future possibilities? How you answer this question will likely decide how you answer the first question.

For those struggling in the present because you are stuck in the ruts of your past, know that God’s Word has something for you. When the apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians, he was intentional NOT to focus on his past. If ever someone might have a desire to change their past, it would have been Paul. He made the lives of Christians miserable. He was instrumental in their persecution and death (Acts 7:57-58). However, when he considered the grace God had shown him by forgiving ALL his past sins and the future glory that was promised when Christ returned, Paul had a clear focus. He didn’t get stuck in the ruts of regret and waste time pouting about his past sins. Paul got to work. He knew his future was in Heaven and he desired to know Christ more and more each day. The joy found in those two things was the fuel to keep him future-focused.

So, follow the truth found in God’s Word and keep pressing on!

“I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus,” (Phil. 3:13-14).
