Seeking Wisdom
August 14, 2024I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge that Chad has given us to read the Proverb that correlates with that day of the month that we are in. The Proverbs contain so much wisdom and instruction.
Since I am writing this on Tuesday, I am using Proverbs 13. As I am reading and studying through the chapter the theme that pops out to me is that we shouldn’t be too prideful to listen to proper instructions or to ask someone for advice when needed.
V1. A wise son heeds his father’s instruction.
V10. Wisdom is found in those who take advice.
V 13. Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it – but whoever respects a command is rewarded.
V18. Whoever heeds correction is honored.
V 20. Walk with the wise and become wise.
Admitting we are wrong or asking for advice is hard. We may think that it makes us look weak. But, as we look through this chapter, we see that it is actually wise, shows wisdom, and we will be rewarded and honored.
God’s word is a great place to go for wisdom and instruction. It’s our manual for life. However, also be sure to listen to the wise people around you. Yes, it’s easy to go to your spouse or to your best friend for advice because most likely they will agree with you. Sometimes, though, it’s necessary to seek out counsel or advice from someone else – maybe older – more experienced. Someone who is willing to speak truthfully – ask you the hard questions that may help you see the situation from all angles.
Remember to seek God’s wisdom and instruction with humility.
