Wednesday in the Word

We just finished an exhilarating week of VBS learning about the battle we are in versus evil. It is always a blessing to witness the children grow in their understanding of who God is and see their passion ignited. For all of us, however, it can be these weeks following VBS where the battle truly begins. The enemy is furious with our victories and begins to attack us as we return to our normal, busy lives. We may begin to drift away from God, skipping quiet times and going life on our own. Sometimes our distance from God is not a result of willful sin, but unintentional lack of focus as we return from a spiritual high. I am so easily distracted by my responsibilities and personal goals that I feel like a failure when I’m not meeting my own expectations. The guilt snowballs if I haven’t armed myself for battle that day. “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground…Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God,” (Eph 6:13, 16-17). Our only weapon to fight back against the attacks of the enemy is the Word of God.
