Wednesday in the Word

As a young child, I remember being so intrigued by the stories that my aunt and uncle would share with us kids when they were back in Kansas on furlough. They served as missionaries in Nepal for many years and I remember always wishing I could jump on a plane with them and live over there for a year!

While I never had the opportunity to do that, how they lived out the Great Commission had sparked a desire in me at a young age to do missions work.

As I write this, I'm sitting in a room with five little ones chattering away as they finish their schoolwork for the day. While I'm not trekking up a mountain so that I can help bring the Gospel to a people group who have never heard it before, I am teaching the Gospel to a different set of ears. It is a different type of mission that I suspect my past self would've never imagined I would be doing.

In Matthew 28:18-20, a passage I'm sure we are all quite familiar with, Jesus tells his disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations"... "teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

The call is clear - we are to go!
But for each person, that call will look different.

For you, the call may very well be to go to a different country!
However, your calling, like mine, might be right here in your hometown - with the people living in your house, the people you work with, or the people you meet at the grocery store.

No matter where you are at, do not forsake God's calling on your life to carry out the Great Commission - be a light for His kingdom wherever He has planted you!
