Wednesday in the Word

Proverbs 15:1 - A gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger

Proverbs 16:24 - Gracious words are like honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Proverbs 18:21 - The tongue has the power of life and death.

"Kind words" Mother Teresa once said, "can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are endless." When we choose to offer our words with respect and good will, we help nurture those around us. Use positive rather than negative words; ask questions to learn what happened. Accusations without full knowledge are painful, be kind and practice the Golden Rule. It is easy to be negative, and I speak for myself. A verse I learned as a child often rings in my head. I learned it in the KJV and it goes like this: "Set a watch O Lord before my mouth, keep the door of my lips." (Psalm 141:3)
