What Sort of Person Are You?
August 28, 2024"For what you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing: it also depends on what sort of person you are."
C.S. Lewis
To that I would ask - what sort of person are you?
Do you often find yourself in groups of people who uplift and encourage?
Or do you typically find yourself around others who seem to have very little good to say about anything or anyone?
Is our conversation centered around unwholesome talk and gossip or that which is "useful for building others up"? (Ephesians 4:29)
It is good to be mindful of our conversations with those we spend time with because it can be indicative of what is in our own hearts. Luke 6:45 reminds us that "...the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." And a heart that is full of jealousy, pride, anger and more will eventually make its way out of our mouths.
So if there are areas of weakness that we have, let us ask God to point them out so that we can repent of them! Let us be a Godly example to those we are around and maybe even influence others to consider their speech as well.
And as followers of Christ, may we be the sort of people who live by Ephesians 4:29 that tells us to "not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
