Who Is Your Crown For?
August 7, 2024Simone Biles. Cole Hocker. Katie Ledecky. Gabby Thomas. Kate Douglass. The list goes on and on. Athletes from around the world are delivering awe-inspiring performances at the 2024 Summer Olympics. With such rare talent on display, it’s no small wonder that countless viewers worldwide are drawn into the action. These athletes invest years of their lives training to compete, and only the top three out of thousands receive the prize: a metal disc on a ribbon and fleeting recognition for their accomplishments.
As impressive as their performances are, God calls us to a higher purpose. As the apostle Paul said, “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever,” (1 Cor. 9:25).In the craziness of life, we must remember whose we are: created in Christ to do good works (Eph. 2:10) for the glory of God (Isaiah 43:7). May we live steadfast and humble lives in worship of the One who created and rescued us - so that one day we may fall down before His throne, lay our crowns at his feet, and join in with the twenty-four elders as they worship Him who lives for ever and ever:“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Rev. 4:11)
