Wednesday in the Word

A team of writers has been putting together these short snippets each week for several years now. Let’s remind ourselves of why we do Wednesday in the Word. Our goal has been to help the church family stay in the Word; not only to help you get into the Word, but to help the Word get into you. True, it is only one day a week, but did you know that God designed his Word to give us wisdom and understanding in one-day increments? How do I know this? Let’s go to the Word…

Proverbs 8:33–34 - Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.

Let’s break this down:

1. Why do we need instruction on how to be wise? God says we live like fools without his instruction (look back to 8:5).

2. What happens to the instruction after we receive it? Verse 33 says if we are not careful, we will neglect it. This means we either ignore it or forget it.

3. How do we keep this from happening? Verse 34 says that we go to God DAILY for wisdom. We need fresh doses of God’s instruction in one-day increments.

4. What do you need wisdom for today? Maybe you are thinking about marriage and family from our sermon series and need wisdom for how to be a godly husband, wife, child, grandparent, or family member. Whatever it may be, ask God for wisdom, he loves it when we come to him day after day (8:17).
